Broader market yet to see an upswing: UBS Sec

Suresh Mahadevan Head-Research at UBS Securities feels that even though things have stabilised globally, there has been no major change in fundamentals. Selective stocks and sectors, according to him, will continue to do well. However, the broader market is yet to see an upswing.

Mahadevan is quite positive on the banking and metal sector. He also feels positive about the auto sector, particularly Maruti and Mahindra & Mahindra. He sees more upside in the real estate sector.

Talking about what impact elections would have on the market, Mahadevan said, elections will have an impact on the market in the short term, however, in the medium term, things will stabilise. Investors, according to him, generally view elections as key data point. But, now, the risk appetite has increased; most fund managers are underweight on India.

Mahadevan is neutral on engineering and construction stocks and prefers L&T, as Satyam hang over is out.
